The story behind Draft Mica

The gap between what women loved and what they felt permitted to wear felt worth solving.

Draft Mica is a small women's fashion blog and styling studio in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. The idea behind it is simple: most women do not lack clothes, they lack a clear picture of where those clothes fit into an actual week. A coat stays on the hanger because nobody decided which occasion it belongs to, and a new purchase goes back to the shop because it only works with one other thing in the wardrobe. The blog is where we think about that problem in public.

The writing comes first: outfit ideas, seasonal round-ups and plain-language guides to dress codes in Japan. The styling sessions grew out of the same questions. Instead of selling a look, a session starts from what you already own and the dates on your calendar, a wedding, a new job, the turn of the season, and works outward from there. We keep the format small and the advice specific, and we would rather tell you that a piece is already doing its job than sell you a replacement.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ
01How do I book a styling session?

Use the contact form on this site or write to info@draftmica.com. We read every message and answer by email to confirm availability and arrange a time. Sessions are held in person in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture; for an occasion elsewhere in Japan, tell us where it is and we will say what is realistic.

02What should I prepare before a wardrobe audit?

Nothing special. The point of the audit is to see your wardrobe as it actually is, not a curated version of it. If you want to, you can jot down a few occasions you find hard to dress for, but it is not required. Just have your wardrobe accessible.

03Can I book an event styling session if the event is only two weeks away?

Yes, two weeks is workable for most events. For very formal occasions like a black-tie gala or a traditional ceremony, a bit more lead time helps, but it is not always necessary. Mention the date when you write, and we will tell you what is realistic.

Autumn Fashion Trends in Japan for 2026

Every autumn, the fashion conversation in Japan shifts in ways that do not always match what the international press is covering. The stores in Shinjuku and Shibuya have their own rhythm, and the pieces that sell out here are not always the ones that led the runway recaps. This is a ground-level look at what is actually worth paying attention to this season.

How to Dress for Formal Events in Japan as a Woman

Dress codes in Japan are not always written down, but they are real. The gap between what is technically allowed and what is socially expected can be significant, and getting it wrong at a formal event is uncomfortable in a way that is hard to recover from on the day. This guide covers the main formal occasions and what they actually call for.

Building a Work Wardrobe That Holds Up in Tokyo

Tokyo office culture is not monolithic. The dress code at a design studio in Daikanyama and the dress code at a trading company in Nihonbashi are almost entirely different, and the advice that works for one will look wrong in the other. This guide is about building a work wardrobe that is specific to your actual workplace, not a generic professional template.
